Melbourne Festival 2012 Lineup Announced

For 17 days in October since 1986, Melbourne Festival has built a reputation for providing quality musical talent in one of the most inspiring, creative atmospheres. The 2012 instalment will be no different, with a well-pieced-together lineup of current musicians, as well as many strong favourites.

Headlining the event will be Antony and The Johnsons, who will not only be performing, but curating an intricate display of Anthony’s personal artwork. Thurston Moore will also be heading up the event, performing with a full ensemble backing.

According to Pedestrian, post-hardcore outfit Shellac will be performing two rare performances at the Hi-Fi and Soulful Jazzers THEESatisfaction. They will be joined by New Orleans’s Big Freedia & The Divas. Billy Bragg will pay homage to legendary Woody Guthrie, as well as a second performance comprised of his personal material.

There will also be many other attractions included in the festival, with Paul Kelly being one of many artists presenting an “evening of beautiful and atmospheric music which touches on the theme of death and mortality”.
