Scalpers Are Selling Midnight Oil Tickets For Almost $1,000 Online

Written by Tom Williams on February 28, 2017

Tickets to Midnight Oil‘s 2017 Australian tour are hot property right now, with passes to sold-out shows being resold for over $900 online.

With eight of the Oils’ upcoming Aussie shows now sold out, tickets have been popping up on resale sites for highly inflated prices, which isn’t super-surprising given the tour’s popularity and the desperation of ticket scalpers.

Music Feeds has spotted Midnight Oil tickets up for sale for almost $1,000 online. For comparison, the original cost of most tickets on Midnight Oil’s upcoming Aussie tour are between $80 and $150.

In a statement to fans late yesterday, Midnight Oil warned punters against purchasing tickets from reseller sites.

“Such unofficial sites may currently be legal but they typically charge vastly inflated prices and sometimes even offer fake tickets,” the band say.

“Midnight Oil is well aware of the problems caused by automated ticket buying around the world and the band is as frustrated as its fans are by this ticket scalping. It may be legal and impossible to stop in many places but it is clearly a big problem for both fans and artists on all ‘high demand’ shows these days.”

Midnight Oil are implementing a number of anti-scalper measures for their 2017 The Great Circle world tour, including limiting tickets to six-per-person and issuing paper tickets instead of digital ones, but that clearly hasn’t stopped scalping from being an issue.

Ticket scalping has plagued a number of popular Australian tours recently, with tickets to Adele and Justin Bieber‘s upcoming tours being flogged for thousands of dollars by scalpers.

Midnight Oil are expected to add new shows to the Australian leg of their The Great Circle tour in the next 24 hours or so.
