System Of A Down Are Working On New Music, Finally!

DEAR GOD YES.

It may not be too long until we’re shoving new System Of A Down tunes into our earholes, with frontman Serj Tankian revealing that work on their new music has begun.

“We’re communicating and trying to see if we can bring our material together,” the charismatic frontman told Rolling Stone. “There’s definitely a lot of communication going on, a lot of back and forth. I can’t make a statement in terms of whether we’re going to have a record or not, because we haven’t gone into the studio and done it. But there’s definitely communication going on, songs being played to each other and all that stuff, so it’s good. We’ll see what happens.”

Tankian went on to say that he’s hopeful that the band can record again, stating: “I think it would be great to create something brand new in a new direction. It would be very exciting, but everyone’s got to be on board, on the same page, and it’s got to be done in a way so that everyone is happy. If we can do that, we’ll do it.”

It’s been more than 10 years since System released their last album Hypnotize, which means they’ve had plenty of time to work on new material. And though Serj has been busy with his solo career, he’s revealed that some of the songs he’s written could end up on a potential new System record.

“I’ve written a bunch of rock songs. We’ll see where they end up,” he teased. “I leave that vague on purpose because I don’t know what’s going to happen with them. Either they will become System or solo or whatever. We’ll see. Time will tell.”

Despite not releasing any new material since 2005, the band have continued to tour sporadically, and even headlined Rock In Rio last year with a little help from Deftones’ Chino Moreno.

However, they’ve yet to visit Aussie fans since Soundwave 2012, which is now a far distant memory (what are we, Chop Suey?)

But hopefully, with new music on the way, that could soon change.
