Triple J Takes Over ABC Dig Music

triple j and the ABC have announced that the latter’s digital radio station, Dig Music, will now be powered by triple j, with a view to being able to “expand into a diverse and unique offering aimed at the 30+ discerning music lover.”

“Predominantly a new music station, it will be powered by the knowledge and know-how of triple j, as well as our incredibly rich music history and archives,” said Dig in a statement released today. The station promises the change will allow for fresh new content and an expanded catalogue.

In addition to a new format, the station will also welcome a program of guest hosts, including Moby, Billy Bragg, Sarah Blasko, Adalita, David Bridie, Missy Higgins, Bernard Fanning, Tex Perkins, Katalyst, Amanda Palmer, Josh Pyke, Eskimo Joe, Kevin Mitchell and more.

Dig Music have also announced their intention to integrate the audience into their new format, saying “For the next six months we’ll be listening to our audience to find out exactly what you want from the station. What do you want to hear? How do you want it presented?”

Following this six-month period of “audience engagement and industry consultation,” the station will launch officially in April 2014. Said Dig Music’s Content Director Meagan Loader:

“Over the last few years there have been many voices calling out for a station like this and the input of those voices during this initial stage is hugely valuable. We are so excited to be able to evolve with our listeners and create something truly unique.”

Dig Music is currently available through digital radio, as well as the ABC Radio mobile app, online at the official Dig Music website, and can be found within the radio channels of your digital TV.
