Montaigne Shares New Single ‘Ready’, Reveals Album Details & National Tour Dates

Sydney musician Montaigne has shared new single ‘Ready’ today, along with confirming details of forthcoming album Complex and announcing a national tour in November.

The second single to be released from Complex (following ‘For Your Love’ back in April), ‘Ready’ is an energetic burst of deceptively upbeat pop, the track’s instrumentation belying politically-minded lyrics that serve as a kind of call to arms.

“To me the song is about this political moment, where humanity is starting to realise how actually cooked this planet is, that it never had to be like this, and that we have the power now to overthrow those who’ve forced us into this corner”, says Montaigne regarding the single.

“It’s music that I’m proud of representing, because I think that it reflects the feelings swirling around the current political shitfest my generation is facing, and it attempts to transform the anxiety amongst those feelings into angry power. It’s like a fuel source.”

Due for release August 30, new album Complex is the follow-up to Montaigne’s debut album Glorious Heights, released back in 2016. Working with a wide range of producers including long-time collaborator Tony Buchen and Dave Sitek of TV On The Radio, Montaigne says the tracks on Complex “all came together over a couple of years and each song pertains to a different period of my life.

“It’s basically a series of portraits of all of my insecurities, or the weird relationships I’ve been in, or neurotic feelings I’ve felt while being attracted to others. The album’s like this veil behind which I stashed all these secrets I was keeping from myself.”.

Montaigne will take to the road this November to celebrate the release of Complex, taking in 13 dates throughout the country. She’s partnered with fundraising program PLUS1, so $1 from each ticket sale will go to biodiversity non-profit Bush Heritage Australia.
