Watch Ed Sheeran, Elton John and Courteney Cox Dedicate a Performance of ‘Tony Danza’ to Lisa Kudrow

Ed Sheeran has performed a brief rendition of Elton John‘s classic ‘Tiny Dancer’ alongside the song’s writer himself, plus Courteney Cox and Brandi Carlile, dedicated to Friends star Lisa Kudrow.

Naturally, Ed and co. alter the lyrics to reflect Kudrow’s character Phoebe Buffay, and her assertion in season three Friends episode ‘The One with the Princess Leia Fantasy’ that the most romantic song ever is “the one Elton John wrote for that guy in Who’s the Boss.”  When pressed, Kudrow’s character recites her misheard lyric – “Hold me close, young Tony Danza.”

Sheeran opens the tune by saying “Lisa Kudrow, this is for you.” He and Carlile play acoustic guitar, while Cox – who played Monica on the show – plays piano and all four artists sing along. Watch the video via Sheeran’s Instagram below.

This isn’t the first time recently that Sheeran and Cox have teamed up to pay homage to the sitcom. Late last month, the pair teamed up to recreate the famous Ross and Moncia dance routine.

Last month saw the airing of the long-awaited Friends reunion special, which saw Cox reunite with co-stars Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer. Special guests to appear on the how included Lady Gaga (who joined Kudrow for a rendition of ‘Smelly Cat’), Justin Bieber, BTS and more.
