News has steadily been coming through regarding Space Jam: A New Legacy, a sequel to the 1996 blockbuster that swaps out the original’s Michael Jordan for NBA star LeBron James.
Now, we have the forthcoming film’s first trailer, which sees LeBron and his son Dom (Cedric Joe) trapped in a virtual world by a rogue artificial intelligence system called Al-G Rhythm, played by Don Cheadle. In order to save his son and get them home safe, LeBron is forced to lead the motley Looney Tunes crew to victory on the court over Al-G’s digital champions, the Goon Squad.
The new trailer shows a host of Looney Tunes faves like Bugs and Lola Bunny, Daffy Duck, Foghorn Leghorn and Yosemite Sam. There’s also a slew of familiar characters from other Warner Bros-owned properties – such as the Iron Giant, the Flintstones, King Kong, the Mask and even some gangsters from A Clockwork Orange for some reason – making for a kind of Ready Player One scenario.
Watch the first trailer for Space Jam: A New Legacy below. It’s set to arrive in Australian cinemas mid-July.
