Fans of the smoky, melancholy vocals of south coast New South Wales singer-songwriter Steve Smyth can soon rejoice. Steve’s new album, Exits, drops early next month and we recently caught up with the man himself to talk about his upcoming tour dates, future plans, and the meaning behind that album title.
“It’s a very exciting time,” says Steve. “It’s wonderful to be able to have the opportunity to make another album. These days it gets stacked against you, but first and foremost, it’s a privilege to make another one… to put some good effort into some film clips and get a good response is super encouraging.”
“I’ve been surprised with the amount of people seeing the tour dates and being a bit overwhelmed,” the singer-songwriter admits. “For me, this is what I do. That’s the main reason, live shows. It’s an amazing opportunity to be able to be a champion for people and this is a dream run for me to be this busy.”
“I don’t see it settling down even after this run is finished,” Steve reveals. “Maybe a week or two [of rest] and then get back into it. Hopefully some more festivals will come in, if they’ll have me. You know, it’s nice to give this album to Australia first, but I’ll be jumping over to Europe and continuing on.”
