Music Feeds Podcast Episode #19 – The Drones

Written by Mike Hohnen on September 13, 2013

One of the most prominent and progressive Australian rock outfits, The Drones have had a killer 2013. Kicking things off with their latest and sixth studio album I See Seaweed, the band are now set to embark on their second run of national dates in support, which starts tonight in Melbourne, before gearing up to get cracking on album #7. Music Feeds caught up with guitarist Dan Luscombe to get a moment of his time during this busy period.

As the very candid Dan explains, the current tour will be the last from the band before they “politely fuck off”. Two tours, he says, is the most you can get from an album these days. I See Seaweed has left the band with many things, including a handful of nominations for the upcoming AIR awards. Though the band understands the weight of the acknowledgement, they also understand that it doesn’t mean they’ve conquered anything (and don’t mention the ARIAs, cripes!)

Now The Drones are focusing on finding a nice isolated place where they can make a lot of noise – according to Dan, they want at least 6 months of peace and quiet to record their new album after bashing the last few out in quick succession.
