Big Day Out 2014 Lineup Second Announcement Coming Next Month

Whether you snapped up your BDO tickets in the last few days, or are waiting for more news before committing, you’ll be happy to know that Big Day Out have confirmed that their second 2014 lineup announcement is just around the corner.

BDO CEO Adam Zammit has revealed to anxious punters on Twitter that the second lot of names should be coming “mid September”, meaning you should have around four weeks to decide whether it’s worth the risk of the event selling out before you decide to get your arse into gear.

Director Ken West told Music Feeds at the official Big Day Out 2014 launch party that the entire bill would comprise of something like 45 acts, meaning that there’s potentially another 12 or 13 artists on the roster.

Considering there’s already four world class names at the top of the roster – Pearl Jam, Blur, Arcade Fire and Snoop Dogg – don’t expect any big, big names for the second announcement. Kendrick Lamar has already been ruled out, given his Grammy Awards commitments over the Australia Day long weekend, so don’t expect his name either.

West has also said that there will be more heavy acts in the second round of names, noting the dearth of metal and -core artists in the initial lineup. One name being thrown about is Dethklok, with West telling FasterLouder late last month that the band “hadn’t quite gotten it together” for the first round. Zammit also seems keen on the Metalocalypse metalheads, telling inquisitive tweeters to “get a petition going to get em off the couch“.
