Breakthrough Acts Win Big At Brit Awards

The Brit Awards are over for another year, and for another year it was a powerful female vocalist who shone the brightest. Following on from the success of Adele at the 2012 Brit Awards, songstress Emeli Sandé has won big, taking out Album of The Year and Best Female Solo Artist.

As reported by The Guardian, it was only last year that rising star Sandé took home the Critics Choice Award while Adele won for Album Of The Year and Best Female Solo Artist. Now the Scottish singer has risen to the top, with her debut album Our Version of Events surpassing Adele’s 21 in September as the best-selling album of 2012.

Replacing Sandé as this year’s Critic Choice winner was British singer-songwriter Tom Odell. Other victors include the popular Ben Howard who was crowned Breakthrough Act and Best Male Solo Artist, the same 1-2 Ed Sheeran won last year. Mumford & Sons took home the Brit Award for Best Group, which can now keep their Grammy for Album Of The Year company, while Coldplay won Best Live Act.
