Eskimo Joe Are “Definitely” Planning A New National Tour

Written by Emmy Mack on May 7, 2019

Paint your fingernails black and grab some red wine because Eskimo Joe are plotting a new national tour!

The Aussie alt-rock legends’ founding guitarist Joel Quartermain has told Music Feeds that the band are “definitely” working on a fresh run of dates, to be announced on the heels of their forthcoming one-off Fremantle show this Friday, which will see them playing 2006’s Black Fingernails, Red Wine LP in full.

“Yup!” he confirmed to Music Feeds reporter Riley Fitzgerald re: the band’s tour plans. “I can’t give you dates or anything like that, but we are. Definitely.

“That’s why we’re doing this show in Perth, just to see,” he continued. “It’s kind of small show, only a 700-capacity room or something. So, we might do the show, figure out what works, what didn’t work and then sharpen it right up and then take it out and take it around the country. I don’t know if I’m giving away secrets there! My management might want to kill me, but whatever! [Laughs] That’s all we’re doing.”

Joel also added that the band have been chatting about putting out a new release to boot.

“I think there’s talks about doing some kind of compilation album at some point in the not-too-distant future and then doing something new for that,” he explained. “But there’s no plans as yet to get in and do an album or anything like that.

“I think it sort of got to the point with [2013’s] Wasteland – which is probably one of our better records – where the band had made six albums,” he continued. “You get into the room with the same two people to make another which is – it’s a big effort making another record. It’s a lot of songwriting, a lot of jamming. It’s like climbing Everest or whatever! Especially it seems now that I’m a producer and everyone is just doing singles.

“But it’s almost like you know what they’re going to bring to the table, and they know what you’re going to bring to the table. It’s almost like we clocked it with the band. So at this stage no albums. But who knows? It feels like we told the story, you know?”
