Sydney songwriter Oly Sherman is kicking off his 2021 musical output with the release of ‘Lush Lyfe’ that sees him take a different direction than what he was following before, namely because of the collaboration with rapper KP Hydes. “The song for me is about feeling slightly misunderstood,” he says. “I was going through so many of the motions in so many aspects of my life for so long, and wasn’t until recently I decided to start making more decisions for myself. The title of the song is ironic in a way, as a ‘lush life’ can be misleading.”

Review:
‘Lush Lyfe’ is summery in name and in nature, with scratching guitars and smooth, chocolatey piano keys driving it along. While Sherman’s voice is airy and feather-light, rapper KP Hydes comes in to anchor the verses with a conviction and sternness that helps balance the song. The interplay between the two, very different vocal deliveries, offers a listening experience that’s both relaxing and commanding.
