Gorillaz Will Record Their New Album This September

Everyone (who isn’t a Metalocalypse fan)’s favourite virtual band, Gorillaz, have been teasing that their first new album in five years is on the horizon, and now we have a clearer idea of just how close that horizon is.

On the eve of his main band Blur’s first Australian tour in almost two decades, Gorillaz mastermind Damon Albarn has revealed that he’s due to hit the studio in two months’ time to record a new album for his cartoon side-project.

“I’m starting recording in September for a new Gorillaz record,” Albarn told ABC’s 7.30. “I’ve just been really, really busy so I haven’t had a chance.

“I’d love to just get back in to that routine of being at home and coming to the studio five days a week,” he said.

The news comes after Albarn shared a bunch of new Gorillaz artwork on his personal Instagram page back in February, signalling that the animated rockers were due for a resurgence.

In the meantime, Albarn will be touring Australia as part of the Splendour In The Grass festival with Blur, who recently launched their own brand of ice cream, and will play some monster arena shows with fellow Splendour act, Jamie T.

And judging by Albarn’s recent shenanigans, it’s possible those shows could stretch on for over five hours.

The future is coming on.
