Hiatus Kaiyote To Tour In Support Of New Album ‘Tawk Takeout

Melbourne’s Hiatus Kaiyote really are doing things differently. Few bands release their debut album to an already gathered horde of followers, even fewer can boast praise from some of the most respected musical talent planet earth has to offer. Hiatus Kaiyote can tick both those off as they gear up to hit the highways of Australia in support of their debut release.

Titled Tawk Takeout, the remix album sees the band hone in on their neo-soul inclinations, but by no means does it stop there. Melting, fusing, combining, whichever word you want to use, the band does it with all of their influences. The instrumental foundations of Tawk Tomahawk perfectly support the smooth and deadly sexy vocals of Nai Palm, which effortlessly float over the composition almost as if totally doing its own thing.

Touring, however, is not at all new to the 4-piece. Already the outfit has shared stages with Taylor McFerrin, who actively champions the band; Warp’s Clark and Harmonic 313; and Brainfeeder’s Lapalux. What’s more, Hiatus Kaiyote have gigged vigorously throughout Melbourne’s bars, clubs and live music venues.

Worthy of note is The Root‘s Ahmir Questlove Thompson, who’s reaction to hearing Hiatus Kaiyote was something along the lines of “oh. my. gawd. this. is. DOOOOOOOOOOOPE. this coming from a cat who drowns in music everyday. so yes im willing to give someone the ‘”COTDAMNY!!!” co-sign'” Yeah, they’re that good!

Tawk Takeout, the bands remix album, will be available for free download through Wax Poetics. The US-based print and online orientated music gospel has previously set its sights on acts such as Sade, Flying Lotus and Lenny Kravitz. On the album you will be able to find tracks masterfully meddled with from Mark de Clive-Lowe, Shafiq Husayn (Sa-Ra Creative Partners), MFP, Anthony Valadez (KCRW) and many more.
