Jimmy Barnes Pulls Out of By The C Torquay, Jon Stevens, Ian Moss, Daryl Braithwaite to Take His Place

Jimmy Barnes is not able to fulfil his headline duties at By The C in Torquay this Saturday, 2nd December. Barnes is in hospital receiving treatment for bacterial pneumonia, which already caused him to miss the Rock the Boat music cruise earlier in the week. Jon Stevens of Noiseworks fame has been added to the lineup.

In a post to its social media channels, By The C confirmed that Barnes’ band will still be performing, joined by guest vocalists Stevens, Ian Moss, Daryl Braithwaite, and Barnes’ kids Mahalia Barnes and David Campbell. They’ll be playing a set full of Cold Chisel songs and selections from Barnes’ solo repertoire.

Barnes shared a statement apologising for the last-minute cancellation. “I know a lot of people travel a long way for this so I’m really sorry that I won’t be able to see you in Torquay as I’d hoped,” he said. “This infection has knocked me for six so there’s no chance that the doctors will let me out of bed for the next few days.”

Barnes hyped up his substitutes on the lineup. “I’d like to thank my dear friends Mossy, Jon and Daryl, plus my wonderful kids Mahalia and David for putting together this unique show with my live band. It’s never been done before so I wish I could be there to see it myself!”

When announcing his withdrawal from Rock the Boat this week, Barnes explained that he’d been “receiving intravenous antibiotics over the last 36 hours to treat bacterial pneumonia.” The lineup for By The C also includes The Living End, a solo set from Stevens, Birds of Tokyo, Pete Murray and Kasey Chambers.
