Midnight Oil Detail New Aussie Shows To Make Up For Cancelled Dates

Midnight Oil have added a trio of Australian shows to their itinerary for August and October. The forthcoming shows are set to make up for a run of dates the group were forced to cancel due to COVID and weather earlier this year.

After embarking on their final world tour in support of their latest album, RESIST, the Oils had to postpone Victorian dates in March after drummer Rob Hirst was diagnosed with COVID-19. Soon after, the band had to push back dates in Darwin, Cairns, and Canberra, while an appearance at A Day On The Green in Swan Valley was moved back to September.

New dates have been announced for these previously abandoned shows, with a variety of support acts joining them along the way. Busby Marou are on support duties when Midnight Oil perform at Cairns’ Munro Martin Parklands on Thursday, 25th August, while Leah Flanagan will join for the show at the Darwin Convention Centre on Saturday, 27th August.

Goanna and Stephen Pigram will warm up the crowd for Midnight Oil at their A Day On The Green performance at Swan Valley on Sunday, 25th September, while the band’s appearance at Canberra’s ANU Campus on Saturday, 1st October will be complemented by King Stingray,  Moaning Lisa, and a solo set from Emily Wurramara.

“We were very frustrated that COVID cost us two gigs up north and that Canberra safety officials then pulled the plug on that show due to lightning,” Peter Garrett said in a statement. “We said at the time that we would do everything possible to make it up to everyone in those places who missed out, so now we’re making good on that promise.”

Tickets for the new shows from Midnight Oil are on sale from Monday, 18th July, with both a Midnight Oil and Frontier Touring pre-sale running for 24 hours from 12pm on Thursday, 14th July.
