Californinan stoner rock band and masters of doom Sleep will return to Australia later this year for the Meredith Music Festival and adding to the good news, they have also just announced a full set of December headlining Australian tour dates.
This will mark the veteran band’s debut full tour of Australia and they’ll be kicking things off at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel on Saturday, December 6th before moving onto Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, a stop at Meredith and then finishing things up in Sydney.
Sleep formed in the early 90s, evolving from the band Asbestosdeath, and went on to release their debut album Volume One in 1991. In 1998, they announced their breakup and at the time were in possession of an unreleased “magnum opus”, named both Jerusalem and Dopesmoker.
The band reformed in 2009 and enjoyed a stint in Australia as part of Melbourne’s All Tomorrow’s Parties, and then in 2012 their “hour long, single-track slice of epic stoner goodness”, Dopesmoker, was unleashed onto the world in full, remastered glory.
Now the band have followed that up with their latest effort, The Clarity, their first new work since 1998, which guitarist Matt Pike describes as “the lyrical follow up to a lifetime of marijuana enjoyment.”
Tickets are on sale now. See details below.
