The National’s Matt Berninger & Phoebe Bridgers Team Up For Dreamy Collab Single ‘Walking On A String’

What a perfect pair up. Matt Berninger and Phoebe Bridgers have teamed up for a new track ‘Walking on a String’ and it’s so lovely.

The track was actually created for Between Two Ferns: The Movie. A feature-length movie, based off of Zach Galifianakis’ Between Two Ferns — a low budget comedy, talk show series where he awkwardly interviews celebrities. The movie expands on the concept, taking his talk show on the road along with weird surprises.

One of the weird surprises in the movie is this bad boy. The new song ‘Walking on a String’ is shown as a duet in a bar scene.

Scott Aukerman, the movie’s writer, producer, and director hit up Berninger to create a song for the movie. He had complete freedom to perform the song with whomever he wanted and however he wanted. That’s when ‘Walking on a String’ was born and how good.

The track is the perfect pairing of voices and is seriously goosebump-inducing. The video for the track shows the recording process and as a bonus, features Zach Galifianakis in the background — serving as a reminder of a wildly unlikely origin story.

Both The National and Phoebe Bridgers will be coming to Australia together in March next year. Potential for an on-stage collab? We hope so.
