Watch The Chats and Genesis Owusu’s Ripping Cover of ‘Psycho Killer’ by Talking Heads

Over the weekend, The Chats joined forces with Genesis Owusu for a live cover of Talking Heads77 classic ‘Psycho Killer’, appearing on ABC series The Set.

As you might expect, the new version kicks up the energy of the original considerably – the combined four-piece delivering a ripping punk rendition that sees Genesis in powerful frontman mode. Check it out below.

It’s not the first time Genesis has shown his love of punk in recent months. Back in February, the musician covered the Sex Pistols‘ ‘Anarchy in the UK’ while appearing on triple j’s Like a Version. Watch that here.

Outside of their high-octane collaboration, both the Chats and Genesis also gave great performances of their own material. The Chats played their latest single, ‘AC/DC CD’.

Released last year, the brief but blistering cut is both an heartfelt homage to Acca Dacca and characteristically tongue-in-cheek, declaring the Aussie rock veterans “the second greatest band in history.”

Genesis, meanwhile, performed ‘Whip Cracker’ and ‘A Song About Fishing’. Both tracks are lifted from debut album Smiling with No Teeth, which arrived back in March of this year. Check all three of those performances out below.

The Set is currently in its third season, with the live music program’s latest iteration also set to feature the likes of Paul Kelly, Lime Cordiale, Miiesha, Ziggy Ramo and much more. The 10-episode season screens 8pm on Saturday evenings on ABC, and is also available on iview.

Last week, Missy Higgins and Birdz teamed up on the show, covering Destiny’s Child’s ‘Survivor’.
