The Avalanches Have Officially Returned

Just a day after Melbourne electronic outfit The Avalanches caused mayhem on in the social media universe by updating their social media accounts (some of them newly created), the band has now been announced as one of the acts on the lineup for Splendour In The Grass 2016.

The Avalanches have also been added to the festival lineups for Barcelona’s Primavera Sound and London’s Field Day.

Their Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as their Instagram, Soundcloud and YouTube accounts were all updated to feature an image of a small gold and black butterfly on a black background. Speculation was rife, with many postulating that this could mean the first new music from the band since 2000 debut LP Since I Left You.

It’s the first news we’ve heard from the band since Danny Brown declared that the collab that he’s recorded with them “will change the world”. Earlier that year, The Avalanches announced the departure of founding band member Darren Seltmann, and at the same time declared that the new record they had been working on was going to be awesome.

Rumours of new music from the group extend all the way back into last decade, with reports that it was nearly completed in 2011, and again in 2012.

With their addition to the Splendour lineup, which will be their only Australian show this year – new music appears imminent, but ultimately only time will tell.
