Icehouse started out as a pub rock band called Flowers, and in 2017 the iconic Aussie group will celebrate 40 years of playing live with an anniversary tour across the country.
The band’s first-ever live show took place at the Warriewood Surf Life Saving club on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, and now Icehouse will head out on a mammoth national tour, and will also play shows in New Zealand for the first time in 20 years. They’ll also play One Electric Day, Caloundra Music Festival, Bondi Beachfest and a headline show at the Great Western Hotel in Rockhampton later this year.
“40 years ago we had no idea that the band would last longer than a year, let alone still be performing four decades later,” says frontman Iva Davies of the forthcoming tour.
“As we tour now there is still the thrill of walking out onto the stage like there was back in 1977, and we hope to continue to take the audiences on the journey with us.”
Icehouse’s debut album was released in 1980, and the band held the record for the highest-selling debut album of any Australian band well into the 1990s. As of 2016 they’ve sold over three million albums in Australia and New Zealand and over nine million worldwide, including eight top 10 albums and 28 platinum album sales locally. In 2006, Icehouse were inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame.
