James Vincent McMorrow For Splendour 2014?

Irish songwriter James Vincent McMorrow has confirmed to triple j that he’s got an Australian tour pencilled in to his calendar later this year, adding his name to the growing list of Splendour In The Grass 2014 lineup rumours.

“I would suspect [I’ll be back],” he told triple j presenters Veronica and Lewis. “There’s been some conversations. I’m not sure if I’m allowed to say anything, but I think you’ll probably see me for some shows during your winter, when it’s a freezing nineteen degrees.”

McMorrow’s current Australian headlining shows are being promoted by Secret Sounds, who also promote and book for Splendour In The Grass. And while we are months out from any semblance of an official lineup announcement, McMorrow’s cryptic comments and the close SITG association do suggest a possible Byron Bay appearance later in the year.

Last month UK’s London Grammar also hinted they might have a place on 2014’s SITG lineup and FasterLouder last year speculated Mikhael Paskalev may also be in attendance. Both acts have headlining shows in Australia currently being promoted by Secret Sounds.

In 2013, James Blake was in town for a short promo tour early in the year, also promoted by Secret Sounds, and he eventually found his way onto the Splendour 2013 bill. Clearly they have a thing for Jameses.

McMorrow is currently in the country touring his sophomore LP Post Tropical, which he says features elements of electronic and hip-hop music fused with his distinctive acoustic melodies. “I was completely obsessed with people like Pharrell Williams and Timbaland,” he said. “And I loved the idea of putting together these productions that were so minimal but also, like, forward thinking.”

JVM has just come off touring with the Falls and Southbound festivals, and will finish up his current jaunt Down Under with a sideshow at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel tonight and a Sydney show at the Metro Theatre on 9 January. His new record, Post Tropical, is out now.
