Mildlife Announce Live Album ‘Live From South Channel Island’

Fresh from winning a Best Jazz Album ARIA at this year’s awards for last year’s Automatic, Melbourne outfit Mildlife have announced the release of their first live album, Live From South Channel Island.

The album, set to arrive on vinyl and digitally on Friday, 29th April 2022 via [PIAS] Australia, is lifted from their one-off livestream performance at South Channel Island back in March of this year. Framed by Port Phillip Bay, the band performed cuts from Automatic along with 2017 debut LP Phase.

Automatic, Mildlife’s second album, arrived back in September of 2020. “The recorded songs kind of become the new reference point for playing the songs live,” vocalist Kevin McDowell explained of the psychedelic jazz fusion group’s second album upon its arrival.

“They both have different outcomes and we make our decisions for each based on that, but they’re symbiotic and they both influence each other. It’s usually a fairly natural flow from live to recorded back to live.”
