Mike Patton and his Mr. Bungle bandmates will tour Australia and New Zealand for the first time in over two decades next year. The experimental metal group’s ‘The Raging Rath of Australia and New Zealand’ tour is set to visit Auckland, Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth in the first half of March 2024.
Mr. Bungle will be joined fellow 1980s metal iconoclasts Melvins throughout the run. The tour gets its name from Mr. Bungle’s 2020 album, The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny Demo, a re-recorded version of Patton and co.’s self-released demo tape from 1986.
Mr. Bungle – ‘Raping Your Mind’
Mr. Bungle’s previous Australian visit was in 2000. They played headline shows in Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, Newcastle, Gold Coast, Canberra, Fremantle and Brisbane in support of their third album, 1999’s California. The band ceased activity later in 2000 and didn’t perform live again until 2022.
Buzz Osborne’s Melvins have been frequent visitors to Australia over the last quarter of a century, but they haven’t been here since 2017. They’ve released a handful of albums since that time, including 2021’s acoustic retrospective release, Five Legged Dog.
The forthcoming tour is presented by Ipecac Recordings, the label Patton co-founded with Greg Werckman in 1999. The label roster includes Mr. Bungle, Melvins, Patton’s solo output and acts like Alain Johannes, Daughters and more.
