Northlane Share New Song ‘Eclipse’, Announce Album Launch Show This Friday

Australian metalcore mainstays Northlane release their fifth studio album Alien this Friday via UNFD. It’s the first new album since 2017’s Mesmer from the band, who celebrate their 10th anniversary this year. Ahead of the album’s release, they’ve shared a brand new video for single ‘Eclipse’.

On Alien, which the band produced themselves, frontman Marcus Bridge explores the impact of his parents’ substance abuse issues on him and his sister as young people. Bridge spoke candidly about these lyrical themes in our interview earlier this week.

‘Eclipse’ comes from the same lyrical foundations, with Bridge explaining that the song is “an attempt to understand the reasons and motivations behind the things my father did. When everything else in his life went wrong, he took it out on my sister and I.

“It’s easy to say that he was just a bad father but it was a bit more complicated than that. Despite trying to see it through his eyes, I’ve promised myself that I will never turn out like him, as a father, a husband or a man,” Bridge adds.

The video for ‘Eclipse’ was directed by Jason Eshraghian, who also directed the clip for their track ‘Bloodline’.

“To mirror the theme of the lyrics, I wanted the viewer to literally see the world through my father’s eyes,” explains Bridge. You see all the awful stuff we went through as children but also what led him to do those things. Like the Bloodline video, this will make some people uncomfortable but unfortunately this is a reality for a lot of people.”

In addition, Northlane have announced a free, intimate launch show at Yah Yah’s in Melbourne this Friday, 2nd August from 8pm to celebrate the album’s release. The event will also feature a Northlane pop-up store. Entry is on a first come, first serve basis, so be sure to get there early if you don’t want to miss out.

If you can’t make it this Friday (or live outside of Melbourne) the band will be touring in support of Alien come October.
