Parkway Drive Announce 2024 Australian Tour

Parkway Drive have announced a run of Australian tour dates for September 2024, as part of their 20-year anniversary world tour. The shows will not only mark the band’s first headlining tour of their homeland in over five years, but also their first-ever arena tour there as well – one had been planned for 2020 on their Viva the Underdogs world tour, but was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Joining the band at all shows will be American metal bands I Prevail and The Ghost Inside, as well as Melbourne band Void Of Vision. In a press statement, frontman Winston McCall described the upcoming shows as “the biggest headlining tour we have done anywhere, ever, full stop.”

“[It’s] a celebration of a 20-year journey,” he said. “This is one for the history books.”

Parkway Drive – ‘Boneyards’

Parkway Drive last played in Australia almost exactly a year ago, where they were one of the headlining artists of the inaugural Knotfest Australia alongside Slipknot themselves, as well as Megadeth, Trivium and Amon Amarth. In a review of the Melbourne leg of the festival, Music Feeds noted that “Parkway Drive no longer have stadium ambitions, they have stadium realisations.”

Prior to that, the band had performed at the Knight & Day festival on New Year’s Eve 2021 and headlined the 2019 edition of Good Things. The band’s last headlining Australian tour took place in October 2018 in support of their album Reverence, where they were joined by Killswitch Engage.

Since then, the band have released their seventh studio album Darker Still, which won the 2023 ARIA Award for Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album – their third overall win in the category, tying them with Northlane for the most wins.

The band also became one of the few Australian rock bands to be the subject of an episode of ABC’s Australian Story in October 2022. The episode, entitled Getting Heavy, shows the band in therapy together and hints at some of the toxic interpersonal issues that were threatening the group’s existence.
