In the lead-up to the release of their third studio album, If That Makes Sense, this May, Perth indie-rock favourites Spacey Jane have shared a powerful new cut of their upcoming record and announced a huge celebratory album tour for this June.
First, the new music: dubbed ‘How To Kill Houseplants’, Spacey Jane’s new single is a heartbreaking reflection on a relationship break-down, stylistically inspired by the power-pop balladry of 80’s Aussie bands Icehouse and INXS.
Spacey Jane – ‘How To Kill Houseplants’
Lyrically, the track sees Spacey Jane frontman Caleb Harper confront his inability to repair a relationship as he battles the temptation to walk away.
“I feel awful and I want to save this thing and I don’t know how to do it,” Harper admits, adding wryly of the houseplant-relationship metaphor, “I should know how to do this by now, but I don’t: I’ve killed 35 creeping ivies.”
You can stream the track up above.
Then, after their new album lands on Friday, 9th May, Spacey Jane will take the record live around the country for their biggest Australian headline tour ever this June.
The band will play 16 dates, the majority of which can be attended by fans under the age of 18 (bar the Gold Coast and Newcastle), including double-headers at Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall, Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion, Melbourne’s PICA and Adelaide’s Hindley Music Hall, plus four consecutive dates at Perth’s Freo Social.
The tour will also see Spacey Jane visit fans on the Gold Coast, Canberra, Newcastle, Melbourne and Hobart.
