The English Beat Australian Tour 2012

Ska and reggae-pop legends The English Beat, or just The Beat to fans in the UK, will be touring Australia this August. Joining tours from The Specials and Madness in recent years, as well as Ranking Roger touring as a part of ska super group The Special Beat, we’ve been spoiled with newly reformed – classic English groups lately.

Their sound has been described as a cosmic blend of ska, punk and reggae. Singer Dave Wakeling explained, “I liked the exhilaration of punk and the hypnotic quality of reggae, and I was sure you could combine them into something … hypnotic, but rhythmic and danceable too”.

The band was reformed in 2009, albeit without Ranking Roger, but they still manage a raucous enthusiasm that made The English Beat one of the biggest acts of the New Wave Era.
