Troye Sivan Brings ‘Got Me Started’ Full Circle With Bag Raiders Remix

Troye Sivan has shared a new remix of his 2023 single ‘Got Me Started’ by the Bag Raiders – the duo Sivan sampled on the original song, lifting from their signature song ‘Shooting Stars’. In a press statement, the duo noted that they were impressed with what Sivan did with the sample – which is the only time they have officially cleared its use since its release in 2008.

“We knew Troye was working on something, he [had] reached out and asked us to send him some stuff,” they said. “I guess there was a bit of trepidation there, we were hopeful he’d send back something cool, but you never really know. Happily, when we heard it we were like, ‘OK, this is sick.'”

The duo went on to note that when approaching their own version of ‘Got Me Started’, their aim was to create a remix that “really amped up the 2-step/garage feel of the original”. “That’s what we loved about ‘Got Me Started’ when we first heard it,” they said. “We thought, ‘what if we turn this up to eleven?'”

Troye Sivan – ‘Got Me Started [Bag Raiders Remix]’

Sivan originally released ‘Got Me Started’ in September of 2023 as the second single from his third studio album, Something to Give Each Other. At the time of its release, Sivan spoke of being “adamant” about sampling ‘Shooting Stars’, as he “kept humming it in the studio” while it was made.

“It’s a huge sample and was a big ask; I knew that they had never approved it in the past,” he said. “I’m over the moon about the opportunity to sample that track, because this song is iconic to me.”

‘Got Me Started’ went on to be voted into the triple j Hottest 100 of 2023 at number 33. It was the first of three of Sivan’s songs to be voted into the countdown, with ‘One of Your Girls’ following at number 31 and ‘Rush’ coming in at number 8. These marked Sivan’s first-ever entries into a Hottest 100, with the pop singer deemed a “hot favourite” to win it entirely in the lead-up – though the honour ultimately went to Doja Cat with her song ‘Paint the Town Red’.
