They don’t come more influential than English post punks Wire and now the seminal outfit are touring Down Under, last night announcing a 2014 visit to play Perth Festival, and this morning giving us own headlining shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide as well.
Wire have been killing it since 1976, releasing their masterpiece Pink Flag in 1977. The quartet have since enjoyed a career that’s spanned almost 40 years, releasing 13 full-length albums and inspiring everyone from Minor Threat to REM. They’ve just dropped their latest offering, Change Becomes Us, and if the success of their last Aussie trip in 2011 is anything to go by, this is a tour not to miss.
The original lineup of Colin Newman, Graham Lewis and Robert Grey, with the addition of guitarist Matthew Simms are set to hit our shores next February, with tickets on sale from Thursday, 14th November for all shows except Perth, which goes on sale from 12th November. Change Becomes Us is out now.
UPDATE 23/01/14: Wire have announced that joining them in Brisbane will be singular rock four-piece Per Perpose and the industrial synth stylings of brothers Multiple Man. Meanwhile, Sydney will see the post-punk legends joined by Raw Prawn and the irreverent Housewives.
Fans attending the Corner Hotel show in Melbourne will be treated to performances by post-punk revivalists Constant Mongrel and raucous locals, The Stevens. Finally, for Wire’s Adelaide performance, Rule of Thirds and Bruff Superior will be making their way to the Jive stage.
