Sigur Rós Stream New Album ‘Kveikur’ In Full

Icelandic ambient heroes Sigur Rós are throwing caution to the wind and streaming studio album number 7, Kveikur, in full ahead of its official Australian release date this Friday, and it’s a grittier affair than we’re used to from the group.

After quietly revealing the title track last week, the follow-up to last year’s Valtari can now be heard over at Amazon. The record was self-produced by the three remaining members of Sigur Rós – Jón Þór Birgisson, Georg Holm and Orri Páll Dýrason – and is their first release as a trio following the departure of multi-instrumentalist Kjartan Sveinsson. It’s also their first on XL Recordings. The outfit have descirbed Kveikur as “more aggressive and direct” than their previous records.

Sigur Rós recently joined the rock ‘n’ roll honour list by guesting in an episode of The Simpsons and will be playing the North American debut of our very own Laneway Festival in Detroit this September, alongside The National and Deerhunter.
