Iron Mind have launched their return with the announcement of a national tour in support of their third studio album, Test Of The Iron Mind. The Melbourne hardcore band will release their first album in 11 years on Friday, June 13th via both Last Ride Records and Flatspot Records – with their national tour kicking off the same night at the freshly-rebooted Crowbar in Brisbane. The full list of tour dates, as well as ticketing information, can be found below.
Ahead of the album’s release, the band have shared its title track as the second single. In a press statement, lead vocalist Sam Octigan said that the new track “sums up who and what Iron Mind is”. “[It] became the record title early on in the process, as a nod to our history but looking at the topic with contemporary eyes,” he said. “The song and title goes back to our 2008 track ‘The Iron Mind’, [which] has become a live show staple for us. The ‘test’ in ‘Test Of The Iron Mind’ is us looking back on those original lyrics from 2008 and reflecting that the challenges don’t get easier… but, with experience, we can develop better tools.” An accompanying music video has also been shared for the song, directed by the team of Neil Bloem and Pablo Barnes, which can be viewed below.
Iron Mind – ‘Test Of The Iron Mind’
Iron Mind were last seen on the national touring circuit circa 2014, in support of their eponymous self-titled album. The band’s touring schedule has been drastically reduced since then, although they have supported bands such as Speed, Backtrack and No Warning in recent years. The band have also undergone a line-up change since their last LP, with Born Free bassist Akira Asahina joining the band on guitar. They released their first taste of new music, the single ‘Assume Your Ultimate Form’, in September of 2023. That was followed up earlier this month with another new single, ‘Solitary Realm’.
